I’ve long struggled to get color correct in across the gamma curve. It seems if I get the mid-tones correct the shadow and or highlights will be off. I follow Joris Hermans on YouTube and he shares a really slick way to color correct!
NOTE: I’m not sure why titled the video “Color Grading” when it’s about “Color Correcting”. Color Grading is stylizing a image, where as “Color Correcting” corrects errors in colors captured by equipment.

- Right click your color correction node. I call mine “white”. Set Gamma to “Linear”.
- Under “Primaries – Color Wheels” adjust “Lum Mix” to ZERO.

- Select your vector scope. Make sure “Display Qualifier Focus” is selected. This provides a color picker for the preview pane that references the vector scope.
- Hover over white in the preview pane. Look where the white shows up on the vector scope.
- Use your gain wheel to move the white point on the vector scope (and image) towards center of scope (white).
I’m currently editing my first video using this technique. Will post that video here when I’m done with my thoughts.
